At the Center for Financial Social Work we know that social workers are not the only professionals who work with clients to create sustainable, long-term financial behavioral change, so we created certifications for non-social workers also.
Certified Financial Social Work Counselor (is for those with a degree in counseling or psychology), and Certified Financial Social Work Educator/Coach (is for all others) working with traditionally underserved populations with small/no savings and few/no assets.
We created these additional categories because we know that Financial Social Work helps clients to take control of their money and their lives in every setting from VITA sites, IDA programs, financial literacy trainngs, social services and beyond.
Our ON-GOING Educational, Motivational and Supportive model is experiential and introspective, so it helps clients to understand how they got where they are and to identify where they want to be in the future. This process engages clients in the process of creating a strategy for success for which they take ownership, thus increasing the opportunity to improve both emotional stability and financial circumstances.

Financial Social Work is being practiced across the United States and in other countries by men and women working with populations as diverse as the Military and Veterans and clients on Dialysis, with Cancer and with HIV-AIDS, in Branches of state and federal government, and in Criminal Justice, Domestic Violence, Adolescent Pregnancy, Foster Care, Departments of Social Services, Goodwill, United Way, Universities, Private Practice, Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs, Not for Profits Working to End Poverty and to help clients build assets and Employee Assistance Departments (of national and international companies) etc.
